Dozen and color: four results on a stake of two chips

American roulette accepts both a Dozen and a color in one spin. European roulette splits the numbers 1–12 into the same six red and six black, and the extra green pocket here is the second one. Below, one unit sits on 1–12 and on Red. The stake of the spin is 2. There are four results, not two: some numbers are covered by both chips, some by only one.

In the first Dozen the reds are 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 12. The blacks are 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 11. There are 12 more reds outside this Dozen. Everything else is 12 blacks outside the Dozen, 0 and 00: 14 pockets, both chips missing.

A Dozen pays 2 to 1, and a color pays 1 to 1. When both play, a profit of 2 plus a profit of 1 is +3 net. When only the Dozen plays, a profit of 2 and minus 1 on the color is +1 net. When only the color plays, a profit of 1 and minus 1 on the Dozen is 0 net. When both miss, it is −2.

Four results on American roulette

The pocket count: 6 + 6 + 12 + 14 = 38.

The expectation of a spin: 6×3 + 6×1 + 12×0 + 14×(−2) = 18 + 6 − 28 = −4. Dividing −4 by 38 at a stake of 2 is about −0.11 per spin and 5.26 per 100 staked. Plus 3 happens on six pockets. It does not cancel fourteen pockets at −2.

A full pass of the same pockets

If each pocket came up once, six times +3 gives 18, six times +1 gives 6, twelve zeros change nothing, and fourteen times −2 take 28. The result is 24 − 28 = −4 with 76 staked. One Dozen without a color on the same pass would give −2 with 38 staked. A color without a Dozen would also give −2 with 38. Together they give −4 with 76. The share did not combine into a discount and did not grow past the ordinary one.

A zero on Red outside the Dozen is a frequent outcome, 12 pockets. It is easy to miss in the record: one chip won, the other lost, and the spin’s bankroll did not change. That is not “almost a plus.” It is exactly zero, and in the pass there are twelve such spins.

European roulette removes one empty pocket

On 37 pockets there are the same 6 red and 6 black inside 1–12 and the same 12 red outside. Empty pockets are 13, not 14: twelve black outside the Dozen and one zero, without 00. The pass: 6×3 + 6×1 + 13×(−2) = 24 − 26 = −2 with 74 staked. That is 2.70 per 100. Plus 3, plus 1, and zero on Red outside the Dozen stay as they were.

For a player in England, 12 stays red and stays inside the first Dozen. 00 stays among the fourteen empty pockets together with the blacks outside 1–12. A time zone does not recolor 11 and does not take 12 out of the Dozen.

Six red numbers of the first Dozen give +3. Fourteen pockets give −2. A pass of 38 pockets comes out at −4, not at a plus.

How not to record a zero spin as a win

The sheet needs four lines, not two. “The Dozen hit” and “the color hit,” taken separately, do not equal the plus of the spin. You can play online for money after an account is created: a live balance does not add a single cell to the six red numbers of 1–12. A virtual balance is suitable for checking the four results, and it does not turn into a withdrawal.

  • The chips are equal. A second unit on the Dozen breaks +3, +1 and 0.
  • Red inside 1–12: 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 12. There are six of them, not the whole Dozen.
  • 0 and 00 go into −2, together with the blacks outside the Dozen.
  • After −2 the pair is not doubled, unless a ladder is written down separately.

Why Black inside the Dozen is not a zero spin

A black number of 1–12 wins the Dozen and loses Red: +2 − 1 = +1. That is not zero. Zero happens on Red outside the Dozen, where the color is the one that wins, and the Dozen does not. These two cases of “one chip played” must not be mixed.

Does a hit on 12 give plus 2?

No, plus 3. Twelve is red and belongs to 1–12, so both chips play: a profit of 2 and a profit of 1.

Does a hit on 14 give plus 1?

No, zero. Fourteen is red, but it is in the second Dozen. The color gives +1, and the Dozen gives −1.

How many pockets take both chips?

14 out of 38: twelve blacks outside 1–12, 0 and 00. On 37 pockets there are 13 such pockets, without 00.

Do two chips reduce the share compared with one Dozen?

No. One Dozen gives −2 on 38 staked, and the pair gives −4 on 76. Per 100 staked it is 5.26 in both cases. What changes is the picture of the spin, not the share.

Two chips on linked fields give four different results, and the most noticeable of them, plus 3, stands on only six pockets. Neighboring playing strategies stake a Dozen or a color separately and do not mix +3 with zero. The four lines are worth writing out before the spin, otherwise the return of one chip is easy to record as a win.
