American roulette covers one Dozen with 12 pockets out of 38. European roulette covers it with 12 pockets out of 37. A flat bet does not grow the chip after a win or after a loss. Below, one unit sits on the same Dozen every spin. A hit gives +2, a miss gives −1. The thresholds of plus 6 and minus 12 are the rule for when to stand up. The wheel does not see these numbers.
A miss happens in 26 pockets: the two other Dozens, 0 and 00. That is 68.42% of spins. A hit is 31.58%. A payout of 2 to 1 does not balance the scale: 12×2 = 24, and 26×1 = 26, and over a pass of 38 pockets −2 remains. Per 100 staked that is 5.26.
The plus threshold is twice as close as the minus threshold, and the step up is twice as large as the step down. On 38 pockets, 54.13% of such sessions still reach plus 6, and 45.87% reach minus 12. The nearer threshold wins the count of sessions by only a little. It does not equal the session’s money: plus 6 is smaller than minus 12.
One spin and a full pass on American roulette
The chip equals 1. The result is the profit or the loss of that chip, not the return of the stake to the table.
| How many of 38 | Result | |
|---|---|---|
| Own Dozen | 12 | +2 |
| Another Dozen, 0 or 00 | 26 | −1 |
Three hits in a row give +6 and just touch the upper threshold. Four misses give −4 and do not reach −12. A session therefore often manages to gather a plus in short hits, while minus 12 takes longer to collect. The expectation of one spin is still −2/38, about −0.05. The threshold cuts the session short; it does not cancel the share of a spin.
Plus 6 against minus 12
The session is stopped at +6 or at −12, whichever comes first. The stake is 1 the whole time. The shares below are how many sessions run into each threshold.
| Wheel | The session reached +6 | The session reached −12 | Winning pockets |
|---|---|---|---|
| 38 pockets | 54.13% | 45.87% | 12 of 38 |
| 37 pockets | 59.74% | 40.26% | 12 of 37 |
On a single zero there are 25 misses, not 26, and the upper threshold is taken more often: 59.74%. That is still not 70 and not 80. Minus 12 remains a frequent outcome, about 40 sessions out of 100. French roulette with half the stake on zero does not fit in here: a Dozen loses the chip in full both on zero and on another Dozen. On the RoulCoin wheel that is how it is, and there are two zeros.
A hundred flat chips
A hundred spins of one unit stake 100 and on average give the table 5.26. A chip of 5 multiplies both the stake and the minus: 500 staked, an expected result of −26.32. The account ceiling may not accept a five. The numbers are for teaching; the limit is read on the table.
| Chip on the Dozen | Staked over 100 spins | Expected result |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 100 | −5.26 |
| 5 | 500 | −26.32 |
A single hundred easily ends in a plus as well: the scatter is wider than the average minus of 5.26. The threshold +6 / −12 cuts exactly that scatter, not the average share. In England, 12 pockets of a Dozen do not become 13 because of the time zone. Both 0 and 00 remain a miss of −1.
54.13% of sessions reach plus 6, and 45.87% reach minus 12. Plus 6 is still half the minus that the rest bring.
How not to change the Dozen at the threshold if you play online
The Dozen is written down before the first spin and is not moved after three misses. Every Dozen has the same 12 pockets out of 38. Changing the field does not zero out a minus already gathered. You can play online on a virtual balance without an account and without a deposit: guest chips do not turn into a withdrawal, and the threshold of +6 on them is reached by the same three hits in a row.
- The chip does not grow after a miss and does not fall after a hit.
- Plus 6 and minus 12 are counted from this session’s bankroll.
- 0 and 00 are a miss for the whole chip, not half.
- Three Dozens at once are a different layout. One Dozen enters this session.
Why three wins in a row do not make the threshold positive
Three hits give +6 and close a successful session. Their chance on 38 pockets is (12/38)³, about 3.15%. Much more often a session reaches +6 mixed with misses, or it goes to −12. 54.13% is every path to the upper threshold, not only a clean three wins.
Does plus 6 happen more often than minus 12?
Yes, but not by much: 54.13% against 45.87% on a wheel of 38 pockets. On 37 pockets the shares are 59.74% and 40.26%. The plus is still half the minus.
Is a Dozen miss only the other numbers?
No. There are 24 other numbers, plus 0 and 00. Together, 26 out of 38. Each such pocket takes one chip.
Do five units instead of one reduce the share?
No. Over 100 spins of 5, 500 is staked, and the expected result is −26.32. That is the same 5.26 per 100 staked.
Are three hits in a row already required for plus 6?
No. Three in a row give +6 at once, and that happens in about 3.15% of starts. The other successful sessions gather +6 with misses between the hits. Together with the clean triples, 54.13% of sessions take the upper threshold.
A flat Dozen loses more often than it wins, and it pays double for a hit. Neighboring playing strategies on a color, with a threshold of plus 10 and minus 20, run into the minus more often, because the step there is the same in both directions. Here the thresholds are worth writing down before the chip: plus 6 closes the session, even if you want to take a fourth hit.
