The Dutch system: three spins on one bet

American roulette decides an even chance by 18 pockets out of 38. European roulette decides it by 18 out of 37. The Dutch system does not change the bet every spin. The same chip stands for three spins in a row, and only the result of this trio moves the step: 1, then 3, then 5, 7, 9, and onward by twos.

Two or three wins in a trio give a plus and return the step one pace back. Zero or one win gives a minus and raises the step forward. From the first step there is nowhere to go back: a successful trio leaves the bet at 1.

At a bet of 1, three wins bring +3, two wins and one loss bring +1, one win and two losses give −1, and three losses give −3. A larger step multiplies these four results by its bet.

Four results of a trio on American roulette

The shares below are for one trio on a wheel of 38 pockets. They are rounded to hundredths. A win in the table is a hit on the color; a loss is the other color, 0 or 00.

Wins in three spinsResult at a bet of 1ShareWhere the step goes
3+310.63%back; from the first step, nowhere
2+135.43%back; from the first step, nowhere
1−139.36%forward
0−314.58%forward

Going back are 10.63% + 35.43% = 46.06% of trios. Going forward are 39.36% + 14.58% = 53.94%. A trio ends in a minus a little more often than in a plus. That is not a mistake of the row 1, 3, 5: that is how 18 winning pockets against 20 losing ones are arranged.

What a trio of losses costs on the next step

Three losses in a row on one bet are the most expensive outcome of a step: minus three bets. The row meanwhile steps by twos, and does not double.

StepBetThree lossesTwo wins out of threeNext bet after three losses
113+13
239+35
3515+57
4721+79
5927+911

Four such trios in a row, from bets of 1, 3, 5 and 7, take 3+9+15+21 = 48. The next bet is already 9, and one unsuccessful trio on it costs another 27. This row is far from doubling, but 48 over twelve losing spins is no longer “the bet is one unit the whole time.”

European roulette gives a trio back a little more often

On 37 pockets there are 19 losing pockets, not 20. A trio of three wins comes up in 11.51% of cases, and a trio of two wins in 36.46%. Together, 47.97% of trios go back, and 52.03% go forward. Only the frequency is milder. The results +3, +1, −1 and −3 at a bet of 1 are the same.

37 pockets47.97%52.03%2.70

Per 100 staked an American wheel takes 5.26 on this ladder too. Three spins on one chip do not subtract the share. French roulette with half the stake on zero is not counted here: zero on the RoulCoin wheel takes the chip in full and enters the trio as a loss.

A successful trio at a bet of 1 gives +1 or +3 and does not raise the step. An unsuccessful one moves to a bet of 3, where the same tilt already costs three times as much.

How not to lose count of the trio

In England three spins are counted the same way as in any other time zone: 18 winning pockets out of 38, two greens among the losses. The city does not reset the step. It makes sense to mark on paper which spin of the trio is under way. One forgotten loss moves the step the wrong way.

You can play online for free on a virtual balance, without a deposit. Guest chips do not turn into a withdrawal. On them it is visible that two wins out of three leave the first step in place, and do not “accelerate” it.

  • The bet inside a trio does not change.
  • Two and three wins lead back, but not below a bet of 1.
  • Zero and one win lead forward, to the next odd chip.
  • 0 and 00 are recorded as a loss. They have no separate cell in the trio.

Why two wins out of three do not make the system positive

Two wins give +1 at a bet of 1, and such trios are 35.43%. One win gives −1 and comes up more often: 39.36%. Three losses take 3 at once and come up in 14.58% of trios. Rare +3s do not cover this tilt. The step goes back less often than it goes forward.

Do two wins out of three already raise the bet?

No, they lower the step. At a bet of 1 there is nowhere to lower it, and the bet stays 1. Only trios with one win or with no wins go forward.

How much do three losses at a bet of 5 cost?

15. The next bet after that is 7, not 10 and not 15. The row adds two to the bet; it does not double it.

On the first step, where does plus 3 go?

It stays in the bankroll. The next trio stakes 1 again. Plus 3 does not become the new bet and does not jump the row to 5.

Does zero in the middle of a trio erase the spins already played?

No. 0 and 00 are a loss of this spin. If before zero there was one win in the trio, and after zero there is one more win, the trio has two wins and one loss: a result of +1 at a bet of 1.

A trio of spins on one chip looks calmer than doubling, until the step has moved to 7 and to 9. Neighboring playing strategies move the bet after every spin, not after three. The count of a trio is easier to keep with tally marks than to remember between spins.
