Hot numbers: the next spin does not remember the last one

American roulette, on every new spin, again divides the ball among 38 pockets. European roulette does the same on 37. A hot number is a cell that has come up more often than the others in the latest spins, and the next chip is placed on it. A cold one is a cell that has been absent for a long time, and the chip is placed on it instead, as on a debtor. Both methods look backward. The wheel does not shift forward because of that.

The chance of a number named in advance on RoulCoin is 1 out of 38, whatever the counter shows. The chance of Red is 18 out of 38 after five reds, and after five blacks, and on the first spin of a session. Black has the same 18. The remaining two pockets are 0 and 00. “Black is due” after a long red does not take these two pockets from green and does not give them to black.

Below there is no row that turns the previous spin into an advantage. There are frequencies with which the past happens at all, and one and the same chance of the next spin.

The next spin on American roulette

The table repeats one row on purpose. That is what independence looks like: the label above the column changes, and the fraction does not.

Five reds in a row are rare by themselves: (18/38)⁵ is 2.38%, about one such streak out of 42. The rarity of the streak does not make the sixth spin different. A sixth red again has a chance of 18/38, neither higher nor lower. The same is true of a number. Three appearances of one cell do not subtract the other 37 pockets from the wheel.

What three appearances over thirty spins mean

For a number named in advance, over 30 spins the average number of appearances is 30/38, about 0.79. Zero times over these 30 spins happens in about 44.93% of windows, and at least once in 55.07%. Three times or more, for this number named in advance, is about 4.36% of windows. That is a rare counter, not a signal that the thirty-first spin is obliged to repeat the cell.

A number named in advance over 30 spinsShare of such windowsChance on the 31st spin
Not once44.93%1/38
At least once55.07%1/38
Three times and more often4.36%1/38

If the number was not named in advance, but chosen as the most frequent of all 38 after the window had already happened, a trio is found more often. The maximum is sought among 38 counters, and for some number three appearances over 30 spins stop being an event at 4.36%. That does not help the chosen cell: on the next spin it still has 1 chance out of 38, like a neighbor that did not come up even once during the window.

A color that “ought” to change

After five reds, Black does not become more likely than Red. Both stay at 18/38. Together they hold 36 pockets, and the greens hold 2. Moving the chip from Red to Black does not reduce the five units already lost and does not change the payout of the next spin. On 37 pockets the same logic holds: a color has 18 winning pockets out of 37 after a long series too. French roulette with half the stake on zero is not switched on afterward just because the series was long.

In England five reds in a row are neither shorter nor longer because of the time zone. The next pocket is still one of 38. The city does not strike out 0 and 00 because the color lingered.

Three appearances of a number over 30 spins are a rarity for a cell named in advance. For a cell chosen afterward as the most frequent, that is already a different selection. The next spin in both cases stays 1 out of 38.

What to do with the counter if you play online

The counter is good for checking your own record of the bet, and it is not good for choosing a pocket. The cashier can accept a coin so you can play with crypto, but the rate does not enter 1/38 and does not erase the past series from the calculation. Virtual chips suit a check precisely because on them you can stake both the “hot” one and a neighboring number and see the same payout. A guest balance does not turn into a withdrawal.

  • The chance of a number per spin is 1/38, while the chip stands on one cell.
  • The chance of a color is 18/38, and after a series of the same color it does not fall.
  • 0 and 00 do not become a color payout, however many reds came up before them.
  • A change of field after three identical spins is not written into the rule: it does not change a single fraction in the table.

Why a rare series still happens

A streak of five reds is rare at one place on the tape taken in advance, and ordinary on a long tape of many attempts. 2.38% is about one streak per 42 starts. In an evening of hundreds of spins, several such stretches do not contradict the share of 18/38. They are assembled from it. The next spin after a stretch does not pay compensation.

After five reds, is Black more likely?

No. Both Red and Black stay on 18 pockets out of 38. Two more pockets are 0 and 00. The series does not move them into black.

Must a number that came up three times in 30 spins come up again?

No. For a number named in advance, three or more appearances over 30 spins happen in about 4.36% of windows. On the next spin the chance is still 1 out of 38. If the number was chosen only after the count, as the most frequent, the chance of the next spin is the same.

Is a cold number, absent for 30 spins, closer to a win?

No. Zero appearances of a number named in advance over 30 spins happen in about 44.93% of windows. The next spin gives that cell the same 1/38 as the cell that has just come up.

Five reds in a row almost never happen, so is the sixth already different?

The streak itself is rare: 2.38%, about one out of 42. The sixth spin does not change because of that. Red on it is 18/38 again.

The counter of recent spins is easy to take for a hint about the field. Neighboring playing strategies at least name the size of the bet and the number of steps. A hot number and a cold number change neither 1/38 nor 18/38, however many cells are circled on the tape.
