Ten spins on a color: plus, zero and minus

American roulette does not promise a plus or a minus over ten spins on a color. European roulette over the same ten spins shifts only the shares, not the list of outcomes. Below, one unit is staked on Red ten times in a row, with no ladder and no change of field. The result of the stretch equals the number of reds minus the number of the other spins. Five reds out of ten give exactly zero. Six and more give a plus. Four and fewer give a minus.

There are 18 red pockets out of 38. The expectation of one spin is −2/38. Over ten spins the expectation is −20/38, about −0.53. That is less than one chip, so a single ten often ends in a plus, in zero, and in a minus deeper than one unit. The average shows up over many tens, not over one.

The plus is counted like this: each red gives +1, and every other pocket gives −1. Six reds are +6 and −4, a result of +2. Four reds are +4 and −6, a result of −2. Ten reds give +10. Zero reds give −10.

Three groups of ten spins on American roulette

The shares are rounded to hundredths and together give 100%. A plus covers 6–10 reds, zero covers exactly 5, and a minus covers 0–4.

Minus4 and fewer44.32%41.06%

On an American wheel a minus is more frequent than a plus: 44.32% against 31.41%. About a quarter of the tens also end at zero. A plus is not rare. It simply is not the majority. On 37 pockets a minus is also ahead, at 41.06%, but the gap is smaller. The expectation there is −10/37, about −0.27 per ten.

What the plus itself and the minus itself look like

Not every plus equals +10. Most of the successful tens are six reds and a result of +2. A deep minus is not obliged to be −10 either.

6+2plus

A zero ten is not a small win. It is five returns and five losses. Its 24.27% is easy to add to the plus and say that “more than half of the tens are not in the minus.” Adding 31.41 and 24.27 gives 55.68%. The formula is correct and still does not cancel the expectation of −0.53: the pluses in this half are on average smaller than the minuses in the other 44.32%.

European roulette for the same ten chips

On 37 pockets there are the same 18 red, 18 black, and one green. Ten spins stake the same 10 units. The expectation is −10/37, about −0.27. The groups are the same: a plus from six reds, zero on five, a minus on four and fewer. French roulette with half the stake on zero would change the spin in which zero landed: the loss would be 0.5, not 1, and the table of results “reds out of ten” would no longer come out in whole +2 and −2. On the RoulCoin wheel zero takes the chip in full, and there are two zeros.

For a player in England a ten does not become European because of the city. 18 red out of 38 do not turn into 18 out of 37. A time zone does not throw 00 out of the column “not red.”

Six reds out of ten give only +2. Such pluses are 31.41%. Minuses, where the reds are four or fewer, are 44.32%.

Where to stop exactly at ten

The tenth spin is played even if after eight the result is already +4 or already −4. Otherwise it is a different stretch, not these shares. The next ten, if there is one, is counted from zero, not as the tail of the first. You can play online for money after an account is created. A live balance does not add a single pocket to the 18 red ones. Virtual chips suit ten spins and do not turn into a withdrawal.

  • The chip equals 1 for all ten spins and sits on one color.
  • 0 and 00 go into “not red” and give −1, like Black.
  • Five reds are a result of 0, not a reason to take an eleventh spin inside the same stretch.
  • A switch to Black after three misses is not written into the stretch. The shares above are counted for one field.

Why a frequent plus of a ten does not cancel −0.53

Almost a third of the tens are in the plus, and a quarter are at zero. That is visible over an evening and looks like an edge. The average of −0.53 hides in the fact that a typical plus starts at +2, while a minus can be −2, and −6, and −10. Over a hundred such tens the expectation is about −53 units with 1000 staked. That is the same 5.26 per 100.

Do six reds out of ten give plus 6?

No, plus 2. Six spins at +1 and four at −1. Plus 6 would take eight reds: +8 and −2.

Does a plus come up more often than a minus?

On 38 pockets, no: plus 31.41%, minus 44.32%, zero 24.27%. On 37 pockets, plus 34.42%, minus 41.06%.

Are five reds already a good ten?

That is zero. Five in the plus and five in the minus. A ten goes into the plus from six reds, and the nearest such result equals +2, not +5.

Do ten spins of one unit cost minus 5?

On average, no, about −0.53, that is −20/38. Minus 5 is a separate outcome; for example zero reds give −10, and three reds give −4. The average over all tens is less than one chip. A single ten can give both −10 and +10.

Ten identical chips on a color are shorter than any threshold and already show that a plus is not rare, while the average is still negative. Neighboring playing strategies either pull the session to plus 10 and minus 20, or change the chip after every spin. Here the length is written down in advance: ten, and the eleventh spin does not enter this share.
