American roulette lays the pockets out on the wheel differently from the rows of the table. European roulette also separates wheel neighbors from neighbors on the cloth, but it has no 00, and the window around zero is different. The window below is five Straight up chips: the number, and two pockets each way along the wheel. Each chip pays 35 to 1.
Clockwise around zero on the RoulCoin wheel lie 14, 2, 0, 28 and 9. This is not Line 1–6 and not the package 0, 00, 1, 2, 3. On the table, 14 stands far from zero, and 28 does too. They do not lie next to zero on the layout. The neighborhood here belongs only to the wheel.
The stake is five units, one on each pocket. If one of the five hits: the profit is 35, the other four chips lost, and the net is +31. A miss on all five: −5. The chance of a hit is 5 out of 38, which is 13.16% of spins.
Five pockets around zero on American roulette
The order in the table is the order of the wheel, not the order of the numbers on the layout.
| Window pocket | Where it sits on the wheel | If it lands | If any other pocket lands |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14 | one away from zero | +31 | −5 |
| 2 | immediately before zero | +31 | −5 |
| 0 | the center of the window | +31 | −5 |
| 28 | immediately after zero | +31 | −5 |
| 9 | one away after zero | +31 | −5 |
00 is not in this window. It stands on the other side of the wheel, between 1 and 27. The Five number package is exactly what takes 00, 1, 2 and 3 together with zero, and it pays 6 to 1 with one chip. Five Straight up bets pay 35 to 1 on the pocket that landed, and for them 00 is a complete miss on all five units.
A pass through 38 pockets
If each pocket came up once, five hits would give 5 × 31 = 155, and 33 misses would take 33 × 5 = 165. The result is −10 with 190 staked. Dividing −10 by 190 is again 5.26 per 100. A window of five pockets is not milder than one Straight up chip. It gives a plus more often, and it costs more on every spin.
| Layout | Stake | A hit | Over 38 different pockets |
|---|---|---|---|
| One Straight up chip | 1 | +35 | −2 |
| Five neighbors on the wheel | 5 | +31 | −10 |
| Line 1–6 on the table | 1 | +5 | −2 |
Line 1–6 is six numbers that stand in two rows on the cloth. On the wheel they do not run in a row. The neighbors of zero are five pockets that run in a row on the wheel and are scattered across the cloth. These two ideas of “five or six side by side” must not be mixed: a net of 31 and a payout of 5 to 1 belong to different pictures.
The same window on another number
The window moves with the number. Seven, twenty and seventeen have their own neighbors, not 14 and 28. The rule is the same: five Straight up bets, a hit of +31, a miss of −5, a share of 5.26 per 100. On 37 pockets there is no such American order: there is no 00, and two steps from zero land on other numbers. A comparison with the European wheel makes sense only as a different map, not as the same five chips.
| Wheel | Chips in the window | Net on a hit | Per 100 staked |
|---|---|---|---|
| 38 pockets | 5 | +31 | 5.26 |
| 37 pockets, its own window | 5 | +31 | 2.70 |
On 37 pockets a pass of five Straight up bets gives −5 with 185 staked, if there are 37 pockets and 32 misses: 5 × 31 − 32 × 5 = 155 − 160 = −5, and −5 / 185 = 1/37. The window numbers there are different. In England the window staked is the one on the RoulCoin wheel, with 14, 2, 0, 28 and 9 around zero. A time zone does not replace 28 with a neighbor from a single-zero wheel.
Five neighbors of zero on this wheel are 14, 2, 0, 28 and 9. A hit gives +31 at a stake of 5. Over 38 different pockets the window gives −10.
How not to take neighbors from the cloth if you play online
Before the chips, it is worth checking five numbers against the wheel order, not against a row of the table. The row 1–2–3 is a Street, paying 11 to 1, and that is not the neighborhood of zero. You can play online without signup on a virtual balance: guest chips do not turn into a withdrawal, and five highlighted pockets show at once whether 28 is in the window or whether one was placed instead.
- Five separate Straight up chips, not one chip on Five number.
- 00 is not in the zero window and takes all five.
- A hit on one pocket does not pay the other four. They lose.
- After a miss the window is not doubled, unless a ladder is written down separately.
Why +31 is not equal to five separate wins
A profit of 35 arrives only on the pocket that landed. Four chips that missed take off 4, and +31 remains. That is one win out of five pockets, not five wins. The next spin stakes all five again, if the session is still going.
Does 28 lie next to zero on the table?
No. Next to zero, 28 stands on the wheel, immediately clockwise. On the cloth it is a different row. It is inside the window; one and three are not.
Is 00 among the neighbors of zero?
No. Between 0 and 00 along the wheel there is a long arc. 00 stands between 1 and 27. For the zero window that is a miss and −5.
Do five neighbors pay like the Five number package?
No. The package is one chip on 0, 00, 1, 2, 3 and a payout of 6 to 1. The neighbors are five Straight up bets on 14, 2, 0, 28, 9 and a net of +31 if one of them hits.
Over 38 different pockets, does the window give minus 2?
No, minus 10. Five hits of +31 give 155, and thirty-three misses of −5 give 165. Minus 2 would belong to one Straight up chip, not to five.
Neighborhood on the wheel and neighborhood on the table already diverge at zero: next to it on the wheel are 2 and 28, and next to it on the layout are entirely different pockets. Neighboring playing strategies stake a Line, a Street or Five number and name other numbers. Five chips are worth writing out in wheel order, before they are placed “simply around zero.”
